NIPCO is a generation and transmission electric cooperative. It's mission is simple: purchase and transmit reliable, economical and safe power to its members, and provide other services its members require.
The distribution cooperative members are all parts of their communities. What's good for the community is good for the cooperative. To help the communities and cooperatives remain healthy, NIPCO provides economic development services.
Electricity is purchased most economically when the demand for power is predictable and even. To help keep electric demand stable, NIPCO organized and operates a load management program for its members. Over its history, the Switch Makes Cents program has made a $30 million difference to the members.
Communication is vital to the smooth and efficient operation of an electric transmission system. In the 1990s NIPCO installed a fiber optic communication system that not only provides instantaneous control of transmission devices, but also allows NIPCO and its members to utilize the most modern data and voice communication methods. Its bonus: a new service for NIPCO to sell through its subsidiary, NIPCO Development Corporation.
